Wilfred Bungei, the 2008 Beijing Olympics 800m champion, has been left distressed after his vehicle was stolen from a hotel parking lot in Kapsabet, Nandi county.

According to reports, Bungei's wife, Josephine, had parked the car at the hotel where she spent the night but found the vehicle missing on Monday morning.

Police boss Samson Ole Kine revealed that the watchman who was manning the facility saw the car being driven out at night by some youths.

However, the watchman did not raise an alarm as he thought the would-be thieves were related to Bungei's boss.

"My wife has reported the theft at the Kapsabet police station and we have been assured by the police officers that they will do everything possible to recover the vehicle," Nation quoted Bungei saying.

Cases of stolen vehicles have been on the rise in the north Rift, with crime busters last Friday recovering 13 suspected stolen cars from a home.

A suspect has since been arrested in connection to the car syndicate.
