Published on September 24, 2019, Boeing has announced plans to compensate the families of the 346 people who lost their lives in the 737 Max crashes.
The company will begin accepting claims from family members immediately, with each of the approximately 346 families set to receive $144,500 each. The Boeing Financial Assistance Fund, which is half of a $100 million pledge announced in July, will provide a total of $50 million in compensation.
Boeing's 737 Max jets were grounded worldwide in March after Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all 157 people on board. This came five months after the crash of Lion Air Flight 610, also a 737 Max, in October 2018, which killed all 189 people on board.
