Manchester United's search for a director of football has sparked interest from several former players, including Patrice Evra.

Evra, a former Red Devils left-back, has called on the club to give him a job following their 2-0 defeat by West Ham on Sunday.

On Instagram, Evra wrote: "I think it's time to get our hands dirty! Manchester United board, are you ready to let us help you guys?"

When a follower suggested he handle the transfers for the club, Evra replied: "Paulo Dybala will be my first".

United have never had a director of football but appear keen to fill the role, and have been in contact with a number of former players in regards to the position.

Evra's comments come after the club released a statement updating fans on the board's priorities for the season, hinting that a director of football may be hired.

"Everyone at the club, from the owners down, is focused on competing for and winning trophies at the highest level," the statement read.

Published on September 24, 2019, the statement emphasized the importance of investing in the playing squad and the club's youth and academy sections.
