As Kenyans become more open to intercultural and interracial dating, challenges still arise. Some parents remain opposed to such relationships, leading individuals to avoid dating or marrying someone from a certain ethnic group due to parental disapproval. Even when couples do get married, they may not receive the right treatment from their in-laws.

However, the problem often extends beyond friends and relatives. Couples may face challenges due to their different cultural backgrounds and upbringings.

When dating someone from a different culture or ethnic background, it's essential to avoid forcing them to subscribe to your beliefs, as seen in stereotypes about Kikuyu women. Respect their choices and avoid criticizing their beliefs or acting shocked by their culture.

Moreover, insulting their culture or upbringing can be detrimental to the relationship. Tolerance is crucial in interracial and intercultural dating. If you're not willing to respect and understand differences, it's best to date within your own culture or one you're more comfortable with.
