On September 24, 2019, Syridio Dusabumuremyi, a prominent opposition politician in Rwanda, was stabbed to death at his workplace in Muhanga district.
According to Victoire Ingabire, the leader of FDU-Inkingi, the party Dusabumuremyi was a part of, he was attacked by two men while at work.
Ingabire stated that Dusabumuremyi ran a canteen at a health centre in Muhanga and was a father of two.
The police have yet to comment on the murder.
Ingabire alleged that the murder of Dusabumuremyi is part of a series of attacks on FDU-Inkingi members aimed at intimidating them.
Two months prior, Eugène Ndereyimana, a FDU-Inkingi representative, went missing and has yet to be found.
Earlier in the year, Anselme Mutuyimana, the party's spokesperson, was abducted and later found dead in a forest.
FDU-Inkingi member Jean Damascène Habarugira was killed in 2016.
Ingabire, a vocal critic of President Paul Kagame, stated that her party was being targeted because it advocated for Rwandans' rights and freedoms.
'Our cause is good and we will never give up on it whatever they do,' Ingabire said.
