On Monday, September 23, 2019, a swarm of bees descended on class four and five classrooms at Kanyariri Primary School in Kiambu County, injuring over 170 children.

The incident occurred at around 12:30 pm as the pupils were breaking for lunch.

Rescuers from the county government, including fire engines, were called in to help repulse the bees and assist the injured pupils.

Two of the children were taken to Kiambu Level 5 Hospital for further treatment, while the others received first aid at Wangige Health Centre.

Parents who rushed to the school were left helpless as they were unable to access the school due to the bee infestation.

"We were left helpless as we could not access the school. We tried to go in through the gate and fence but it was impossible," said a parent.
