On September 24, 2019, a bizarre burglary took place in Muteng'uri village, Nyandarua constituency, where thieves broke into a house by feeding the family dog githeri.
The thieves' clever tactic left the area locals stunned, as the family dog was so full of githeri that it could barely bark as the thieves moved from one house to the other in the homestead.
A family member who spoke to Hot 96 radio recalled the incident, saying, "Nilikuwa natoka kanisani kama kawaida nikashanga kupatana na sufuria ya githeri, hapo nikaona milango yote imefunguliwa. Nikangundua kuna watu walikuja wakapee mbwa githeri wakapata nafasi ya kuingia kwa nyumba na wakachukua manguo yote."
The family is now counting their losses after the thieves made away with valuables of unknown value.
The canine has earned the nickname Githeri Dog on social media.
