On September 23, 2019, a devastating building collapse at Precious Talent School in Nairobi claimed the lives of seven pupils and left 64 others injured.

Deputy President William Ruto visited the injured pupils at the Kenyatta National Hospital and announced that the government would conduct an audit of all school infrastructure to ensure that buildings are conducive for learning.

"We do not want sub-optimal structures in our schools," Ruto said, emphasizing the government's commitment to making academic institutions habitable for learners.

Of the injured pupils, 60 had been cleared and discharged from hospital, while procedures were being concluded for the remaining four.

The government has allocated Ksh.10 million to establish a public primary school in the area, with an additional Ksh.10 million provided by the Dagoretti South Constituency Development Fund.

The new school is expected to be established at the Lenana School land and will be run by the Lenana School, with the institution set to be ready by January 2020.
