The burial of Tob Cohen, a Dutch tycoon who was found dead in his Nairobi home, was initially set to take place on Monday, September 23, 2019, at the Jewish cemetery along Wangari Maathai Road.
However, the ceremony was postponed to Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at 2:30 pm due to a shortage of 10 Jewish priests required for the burial, as per the Jewish religion.
According to sources, Cohen was a high-ranking figure in the Jewish religious hierarchy, and it was necessary to have 10 priests, each reciting a verse, to perform the burial.
A Nairobi court had granted permission for Cohen's estranged wife, Sarah Wairimu, to attend the burial, but her lawyer, Philip Murgor, was expected to return to court to seek a fresh order allowing her to attend the rescheduled ceremony.
Wairimu, who is the prime suspect in her husband's murder, is currently remanded at the Lang'ata Women's Prison.
Cohen's sister, Gabrielle Van Straten, had returned to the Netherlands due to personal reasons and would not be attending the burial.
