Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has spoken out about his time at the club, admitting he deserved to be sacked in December 2018.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Mourinho reflected on his two seasons at the helm, saying he had felt positive momentum and a clear direction for the team, but the third season was not good enough.

He added that he had people at the club he loved, and lots of respect for the fans, but was sad to see the team struggling so badly.

Manchester United are currently 10 points behind early pacesetters Liverpool in the Premier League, after just six games.

When asked about the team's problems, Mourinho said: 'I'm not the right person to answer it. They are far behind. It's difficult for me to answer.'

He also stated that he probably deserved to be sacked, but the sad reality was that the team was worse than before.

Manchester United slipped to a demoralising defeat at West Ham, stretching their winless run on the road to seven Premier League matches.
