On September 23, 2019, the burial of murdered Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen was postponed to Tuesday, September 24, 2019, due to a shortage of Jewish priests.
The ceremony was initially planned for Monday afternoon at the Jewish Cemetery on Prof Wangari Mathai Road in Nairobi, Kenya.
According to reports, the burial planners only managed to get eight Jewish priests, instead of the required 10, leading to the postponement.
Robert Cohen, the late tycoon's brother, and lawyer Danstan Omari had arrived for the ceremony on Monday, while Cohen's widow, Sarah Wairimu, was also present.
Ms. Wairimu is a suspect in the murder of her husband and was escorted to the burial by prison officials, as per a High Court directive.
Lawyer George Ouma, representing Sarah Wairimu, stated that all parties had agreed to allow her to attend the funeral, citing that it would not be prejudicial or harmful.
State prosecutor Nicholas Muteti emphasized that the State was not taking sides in the matter, but rather facilitating the parties' agreement.
Justice Jessie Lesiit ruled in favor of the parties' agreement, allowing Sarah Wairimu to attend the burial.
Mr. Cohen's brother, Bernard, would preside over the funeral, as per Jewish customs, which state that a brother buries the brother.
