On Saturday night, thieves broke into Obwolo Primary School in Kisumu East, making off with valuable learning materials. The incident was discovered on Sunday, prompting the school's head teacher, Peter Opasi, to report the matter to the authorities.
According to Opasi, the robbers accessed his office through the back window and then moved on to adjacent offices and the staff room. The stolen items include a public address system, a projector, a wireless phone, and a gas cylinder, among others.
Opasi stated that the thieves had ample time to carry out their activities, as evidenced by the movement they made in the offices. He also noted that almost all the teachers' lockers were broken into, making it difficult to determine the exact amount of loss.
County Police Commander Benson Maweu confirmed the arrests, stating that the guards were being treated as suspects and were set to be arraigned in court on Tuesday. Maweu added that the value of the stolen goods was yet to be identified.
As of Monday, teachers were still cross-checking their belongings to determine the extent of the damage. The incident temporarily disrupted morning lessons, as teachers tried to assemble their teaching material, which had been scattered all over the offices.
