Published on September 23, 2019, Nairobi's Villa Rosa Kempinski has made history by introducing Africa's first pure gold cappuccino.

The luxurious drink is priced at Sh 5,500 per cup and features 24-carat edible gold flakes, edible rose petals from Italy, and foam milk made from fresh brew Kenyan coffee.

According to Villa Rosa's Director of Food and Beverage, Mohammad Mohammad, the gold flakes used in the cappuccino are 100 percent edible and inert, meaning they easily pass through the human digestive system without causing any harm or reaction.

When asked about the origin of the gold flakes, Mohammad remained tight-lipped, stating, 'We would like to keep that as a mystery.'

However, he did reveal that the edible gold has several health benefits, including smoothening and lighting the skin, relieving stress, and enhancing the happiness mood.

General Manager at the hotel, Roberto Simone, expressed his excitement about the new offering, stating, 'Kempinski is a brand that is renowned globally for unique guest experiences. We know no limits when it comes to craftsmanship.'

The gold cappuccino is a rare commodity, with Villa Rosa being the first hotel in Africa to introduce it. Globally, it is the second after the UAE, where it can be found in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Before its launch, Villa Rosa had already received 10 orders of the unique drink, and the hotel hopes to attract high-end customers with the gold cappuccino, reducing competition with other Nairobi hotels.
