On September 19, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in a village in Lugari area, Kakamega county, Kenya. A middle-aged man, Victor Omulai, buried a dead chicken and performed funeral rites, leaving his neighbors in shock.
According to Omulai, the chicken had been part of his life since 2018, when he bought it as a small chick. However, the chicken was beaten to death by some villagers on the same day, September 19, after it was found lying lifeless on the ground.
Speaking to Nairobi News, Omulai said, "I bought the chicken in 2018 as a small chick. They were seven of them but the other six were stolen before they fully matured. The one remaining chicken was beaten to death by some villagers, just when she was about to hatch her 12 eggs."
Omulai further stated that he will be commemorating the chicken's death each year, just as many people do for their deceased loved ones.
