On September 23, 2019, a devastating classroom collapse at Precious Talent Academy in Kenya left a trail of destruction and loss of life.

At least seven children died, and 64 others were injured, in the tragedy that occurred just minutes after the start of the school day.

Engineers investigating the collapse have pointed to a weak foundation as the primary cause, citing the use of fragile materials in the construction of the wooden structure.

The Standard National Building Inspectorate has been called upon to be involved in the construction of any building, especially schools, to mitigate such incidents in the future.

Residents and the school's director have faulted the government for the poor infrastructure of the school, suggesting that running sewerage near the school may have caused rotting of the wood and weakening of the foundation.

The owner of the school, Moses Wainaina, was taken in for interrogation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation officers.

Education Cabinet Secretary Magoha has ordered the school closed for four days.
