On Sunday, September 22, 2019, police in Likoni, Mombasa County, shot and killed a suspected machete-wielding criminal in Ushindi.
The suspect, identified as Abdallah Swaleh alias Vumbi, was part of a six-member gang that had been terrorizing residents in the area.
According to Likoni Sub-County Police Commander Benjamin Rotich, the gang had been attacking people with crude weapons, causing residents to live in fear.
Mr. Rotich stated that the suspect had recently been released from Shimo La Tewa Maximum Prison after completing his jail term, and was believed to be one of 15 individuals who had been released and were now terrorizing the community.
Five of the gang members managed to escape after one was gunned down, and police have since heightened their search for the remaining suspects.
