The burial of Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen, scheduled for Monday afternoon, was postponed to Tuesday afternoon due to a shortage of priests.
According to Jewish tradition, a burial ceremony requires the presence of 10 priests and a rabbi, but only eight priests were available to perform the rite.
Despite the grave having already been dug, the postponement was announced, adhering to Jewish customs that demand a dead person be buried as soon as possible, with some exceptions.
Cohen's estranged wife, Sarah Wairimu, who is the main suspect in his murder, and his brother Bernard Cohen were present at the Jewish Community Cemetery on Monday afternoon.
Wairimu, who is currently being held at Lang'ata Women Prison, had been ordered by the High Court to attend the burial ceremony, with the prison boss directed to escort her to the ceremony.
However, it remains unclear whether Wairimu will use the same court order for Tuesday's burial or will need to file for another application.
Wairimu is due for a psychiatric assessment before she pleads to the murder charge on September 26, 2019.
