Sarafina Wanjiku Njihia, 24, made a bold decision to leave her job at a Nyeri-based hotel after three months. She relocated to Nakuru with a clear vision of becoming her own employer.

With a small investment, she started a chicken meat and sausage business, but the journey was not without its challenges. The initial months were marked by slow sales, particularly for raw chicken pieces, while take-away grilled and sausages proved to be a hit.

However, the business came with its own set of problems. Unreliable suppliers often led to stock shortages, and not every customer was creditworthy, making it difficult to extend credit. Despite these challenges, Njihia persevered and found success in her business.

She now earns between Sh600 to Sh800 on a good day, a significant improvement from her previous employment. The flexibility of being her own boss has also given her the space to pursue other interests.
