On September 23, 2019, a devastating incident occurred at Precious Talent School in Nairobi's Dagoretti area, where a two-storey building collapsed, claiming the lives of seven pupils and injuring 59 others.
The incident occurred at around 6:50 am, and witnesses reported that the affected classrooms were on the ground floor, housing pupils in Class six, seven, and eight.
Government Spokesperson Colonel Cyrus Oguna confirmed the fatalities and injuries, stating that the government would cater for the medical bills of the injured pupils.
“59 students have been taken to hospital for treatment and we can also confirm that there have been seven fatalities. This is a private school but the government is going to ensure the injured pupils receive medical treatment,” said Oguna.
At the time of the incident, there were 850 pupils at the school, and parents rushed to the scene when news of the incident broke out.
Investigations are underway to determine if laid down rules were followed in the construction of the building.
