On Monday morning, a devastating classroom collapse at Precious Talent School in Dagoretti, Nairobi, claimed the lives of seven pupils and left 64 others injured.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto, have expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased pupils, assuring that concerned agencies are taking urgent steps to contain the situation and alleviate further suffering.
Deputy President Ruto emphasized the need for safe learning spaces, stating that concerned agencies have been mobilized to address the situation.
ODM leader Raila Odinga also sent his heartfelt condolences to the parents and guardians of the pupils who perished in the incident, wishing quick recovery to those who sustained injuries.
Two pupils are currently admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital in critical condition, while 62 others have minor head and rib injuries.
Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha confirmed that safety checks had been conducted on 600 pupils and a multi-agency team had been set up to manage the situation.
Professor Magoha further stated that learners will stay away from school for four days to allow safety measures to be put in place.
Area MP John Kiarie visited the scene of the tragedy and blamed officials from the County and National government for sleeping on the job, neglecting the area, and failing to provide public schools in Ngando ward.
