On January 30th, 2018, Raila Odinga took an oath as People's President, a move that sent shockwaves through the government. Insiders reveal that Odinga had made a thousand moves ahead, anticipating the government's response.

DP Ruto is said to have personally told President Uhuru Kenyatta to arrest Odinga and charge him with treason, but Uhuru knew the consequences of such an action. The president had ruled out dialogue with the opposition in 2017, but after Odinga's oath, he was forced to reconsider.

On March 9th, 2018, Raila Odinga met with President Uhuru at Harambee House, burying the hatchet and vowing to unite the country. This move left DP Ruto feeling sidelined and isolated within the regime.

Since then, more than half of the Cabinet have oscillated towards Raila Odinga, who has metamorphosed from a sworn rival to a government influencer. DP Ruto, on the other hand, has remained disappointed and easily irritable, feeling threatened by President Uhuru's increased consultation with Odinga.
