September 23, 2019, marked a significant milestone for HMD Global as it successfully upgraded almost its entire smartphone lineup to Android Pie, with the Nokia 2 being the only exception.

Building on this success, the company has now set its sights on Android 10, with the first Nokia smartphones to receive the update expected to do so in the next quarter.

According to an update roadmap shared by HMD Global's Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, on Twitter, the Nokia 8.1, which has been part of the public beta testing programme run by Google since the third developer preview of Android 10, will be among the first devices to receive the update.

Joining the Nokia 8.1 in Q4 will be the flagship Nokia 9 PureView and the Nokia 7.1. Before the end of the year, the trio will be joined by last year's Android Pie pioneer Nokia 7 Plus, the Nokia 6.1, and Nokia 6.1 Plus.

As seen in the graphic below, the rest of the Nokia smartphones released in 2018 and 2019 will be receiving their Android 10 upgrades in the first and second quarters of the new year.

It's worth noting that the first generation of Android-powered Nokia smartphones, released in 2017, has since run through its major upgrade support period. However, HMD Global has committed to continue providing crucial security updates for those devices through to Q4 2020.
