On September 23, 2019, a devastating accident occurred at Precious Talent School in Dagoretti South, Nairobi, when classrooms collapsed, leaving many injured.
Among those affected was a parent's daughter, who was rescued from the debris. Speaking to the media, Steven Odhiambo, a parent at the school, recounted the harrowing experience.
'My daughter and son study here. My son is okay, but my daughter got injured,' Odhiambo said.
He explained that he was at the school at 7:00 a.m. helping with the rescue mission and was able to rescue his daughter, who is in class three.
However, 20 minutes after he took her home, she started complaining of a headache. Despite appearing fine from the outside, she had no visible injuries.
Odhiambo took his daughter to a nearby dispensary, but they referred him to Kenyatta National Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
He expressed concern about the school's condition, stating that the lack of public schools had pushed them to take their children there, despite its deplorable state.
'To say the truth, the school was not as good, but because there are no public schools, we had no option but to bring our children here,' Odhiambo said.
