Published on September 23, 2019, the Rugby World Cup in Japan has faced criticism for its food and beverage services during the opening weekend.
Long queues for both food and beverages at stadiums were reported, with some vendors running out of food options. In response, the organizing committee has announced that fans will be allowed to bring in a reasonable amount of food into the stadiums, starting with Monday's match between Wales and Georgia in Toyota City.
According to the organizers, the decision was made after the opening weekend demonstrated that the level of service was not befitting that of a Rugby World Cup. Fans will be able to bring in food for personal consumption, but beverages will still not be allowed into the venues.
It's worth noting that it's common for fans in Japan to be able to bring their own food and beverages into stadiums for sporting occasions. However, this was not the case for the opening seven matches across the World Cup's opening weekend.
