On September 23, 2019, a devastating classroom collapse occurred at Precious Talent Top school in Kawangware, Nairobi, claiming the lives of at least seven pupils.
Rescue efforts led to the recovery of six bodies at a local Catholic dispensary, where the children had been rushed for treatment. The seventh body was pulled out of the rubble.
"I am from the Catholic hospital where six children have died," said Mary, a local community leader.
Concerns grew that more pupils might be trapped in the rubble, with over ten others hospitalized.
