Interior CS Fred Matiang'i Clashes with DP Ruto's Ally During Funeral Service ¶
On September 22, 2019, a heated exchange took place between Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot during a funeral service in Nyamira county.
Senator Cheruiyot, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, claimed that Matiang'i had met with the DP at his office six months prior to discuss an impeachment plot against the CS.
However, Matiang'i denied the allegations, stating that he had never met with Ruto at his office and warning politicians against spreading lies.
Cheruiyot's claims were based on an alleged impeachment motion filed by ODM senators, which he claimed was discussed at Ruto's office.
But Matiang'i maintained that he had never been to Ruto's office and that the allegations were false.
Cheruiyot's claims were not the first time a subject touching on Matiang'i's impeachment plot was being brought up by politicians.
Earlier in May 2019, Suba South MP John Mbadi had sensationally accused Ruto of instructing members of the Tanga Tanga movement to hatch a plot to impeach Matiang'i over the infamous fake gold scam.
