On Monday, the body of Tob Cohen, the Dutch businessman who went missing on July 19th and was found dead on September 13th, will be laid to rest in Nairobi.
According to The Standard, Cohen will be buried at a Jewish cemetery located along Wangari Maathai Road in Nairobi, in accordance with Jewish customs and traditions.
It is reported that Cohen had already marked his final resting place, with the spot marked number 184 at the cemetery.
As per Judaist customs, there will be no viewing of the deceased's body or opening of the casket, and all mourners are expected to dress in black and modestly.
Family members will also be expected to make a ritual tear of their outer garments, with Cohen's siblings Bernard and Gabrielle expected to tear the left side of their garments.
Published on September 23, 2019, The Standard reported that the burial ceremony will kick off with a prayer, followed by the reading of biblical passages and the eulogy.
"There will be no viewing of the body, no opening of the casket at the funeral. The body is not buried in suits but wrapped in white clothing," a source at the Jewish Synagogue in Nairobi told The Standard.
The ceremony, expected to begin at 1:30 pm, will be a private affair, with Cohen's estranged wife Sarah Wairimu, who is the prime suspect in his murder, expected to be present if the court grants her request to attend the burial.
