On September 22, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed a panel to select nominees for the position of Kenya's second Auditor-General, following the retirement of Edward Ouko in August.
Former Deloitte East Africa chief executive Sammy Onyango will chair the panel, which includes six other members: Rose Mwaura, Masinde Joy Brenda, Loise Ruhiu, Titus Ndambuki, Kennedy Ogeto, and Bernard Ndungu.
The panel will review the suitability of applicants and nominate three candidates for the position, which the President is expected to select within three days of receipt.
According to the Public Audit Act, the President is required to select one person from the three names and forward it to the national assembly for approval.
Mr. Onyango, a seasoned auditor with 38 years of experience, is a non-executive director at British American Tobacco.
The appointment comes after the deadline for applying for the position of Auditor-General elapsed on September 9.
