On September 22, 2019, Embu Catholic Bishop Paul Kariuki spoke out in defense of Deputy President William Ruto, who had joined the congregation for the Sunday morning service at St Peter and Paul Cathedral Parish in Embu.

The bishop compared Ruto's political enemies to 'houseflies' that are always bothered by the handwork of a bee, highlighting their tendency to find faults in Ruto's development projects.

'Wako kama inzi, kazi yake inatafuta pale kumeoza. Wanaanza kuambia nyuki wacha kutangatanga kama vile Deputy President anaambiwa anatangatanga,' said Bishop Kariuki amid laughter from the congregation.

The bishop also praised Ruto for his efforts in moving around the country on his development agenda, urging him to continue his work without being deterred by criticism.

'Hawaoni ile kazi anayoifanya kusema hii barabara itengenezwe, tuwekewe maji hapa. Nyuki anafanya kazi, inzi anasema unatangatanga... Deputy President, endelea kutangatanga hakuna shida,' he said.

Furthermore, Bishop Kariuki warned the Kieleweke faction of the Jubilee Party to brace themselves for a big shock in 2022, hinting at a potential shift in the political landscape.
