On September 21, 2019, a 13-year-old girl took her own life in Molo, Nakuru County, following a confrontation with her parents.
According to reports, the girl had left school on Friday and spent the night at a neighbour's house without her parents' permission.
On Saturday morning, her mother summoned her to the house, where she was reprimanded and beaten by her father before he left for the farm.
The girl then locked herself in her room and remained there until her father returned in the afternoon, finding the room still locked from inside.
When she failed to respond to several calls, her father broke into the room and found her hanging.
Area Assistant Chief Caroline Chebet confirmed the incident.
The girl's body was taken to Molo Sub-county Hospital mortuary.
