On September 22, 2019, a group of students at Anin Girls' School in Elgeyo Marakwet County, Kenya, were suspended by the school administration after being accused of devil worship.
The students, who were in their final year of high school, were preparing to take their KCSE exams in November 2019.
According to the students, the trouble began when a teacher, who also happens to be a pastor, accused them of practicing devil worship.
The teacher reportedly told the students that they were being watched and that their parents would be summoned to the school to discuss the matter further.
However, the students claim that the allegations are baseless and that they have been unfairly punished.
"We thought it was just a joke, but the teacher was serious," one of the students told a local newspaper.
The students have been suspended for four months, and they are now worried about missing their KCSE exams.
"We want to be allowed to return to school and prepare for our exams like other students in the country," the students said in a statement.
