On September 22, 2019, President Kenyatta was set to receive a list of 24 top lawyers, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Gichugu MP Martha Karua, for promotion to senior counsel.
The selection was made by a committee comprising Justice Mohamed Ibrahim, Justice Martha Koome, Justice Jacqueline Kamau, Omesh Kapila, and Patricia Kameri-Mbote, among others.
The 24 lawyers were chosen from a pool of 90 applicants and will be forwarded to Chief Justice David Maraga for presentation to the President for gazettement.
The list includes prominent lawyers such as James Orengo, Prof. Tom Ojienda, Paul Muite, Prof. Githu Muigai, and Dr. Willy Mutunga, among others.
According to a letter sent to successful applicants, the committee considered their applications on August 26, 2019, and were pleased to inform them that their applications were successful.
