ODM rebel MP Aisha Jumwa has caused a stir in the ODM party by openly campaigning for Jubilee's McDonald Mariga in the Kibra by-election.
Speaking at a rally in Voi, Taita Taveta County, on September 20, Jumwa urged women leaders to support Mariga, a candidate of the Jubilee party.
"I will support the ODM candidate in the Kibra by-election because he is like the Jubilee candidate," Jumwa said, sparking controversy within the ODM party.
Her statement has been met with shock and disappointment from her colleagues, who feel that she has betrayed the party's trust.
However, Jumwa has maintained that she will support Mariga, despite being a member of the ODM party.
"I will support the ODM candidate in the Kibra by-election because he is like the Jubilee candidate," she reiterated.
The Kibra by-election has been seen as a test of the strength of the ODM party, which has been facing internal conflicts and divisions.
Analysts have predicted that the by-election will be a closely contested race between the ODM and Jubilee parties.
