Published on September 22, 2019, Interior PS Karanja Kibicho has taken on Deputy President William Ruto in a heated exchange of words that has further split the government.
Speaking at St. Peters Gathuthuini Secondary School after commissioning a borehole, Kibicho criticized what he termed an obsession by a certain group of politicians with the 2022 elections, saying they should focus on delivering pledges to the electorate.
He also made an indirect stab at Ruto over his tours to Kirinyaga County, saying, 'You just come here to reap where you did not sow…. This is the kind of confusion we will not entertain.'
Responding to Kibicho's comments, Ruto retorted, 'Nataka sisi tukiwa hapa vile sisi huongea tukiwa peke yetu tufikirie ni nini jioni nitafanya nikuwe na pesa kwa mfuko. Hii upuzi ingine tunaendelea kuzungushwa hapa watu wanaharibia wakati badala ya kupalilia mahindi yenu tukatae…,'
The exchange of words is the latest development in the ongoing feud between Kibicho and Ruto, who have been at loggerheads for months. The feud has been fueled by Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, which has been met with opposition from some government officials.
On his part, Joe Mutambo, the Water Resources Chair, warned Ruto against disrespecting President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying it could cost him his job.
