Published on September 22, 2019, by Chris Hart, a renowned author, this article delves into the world of celebrity worship and its effects on society.

Have you ever found yourself scrolling through Instagram, admiring the glamorous lives of your favorite celebrities? You're not alone. According to surveys, up to a third of men and women are hooked on keeping tabs on celebrities and their lives.

While it's natural to admire and aspire to the skills of celebrities, such as athletes or musicians, some people take it to an unhealthy extreme. They spend endless hours reading about their favorite celebrities' personal lives, from their favorite foods to their hairdressers.

For a few individuals, this fascination can lead to problems. Young women who idolize celebrities tend to have a poorer body image, and celebrity watchers often experience poorer psychological well-being and more dependent relationships.

Psychologists refer to these one-sided relationships as 'para-social interactions,' where one person knows a great deal about the other, but not the other way around. Celebrities and their fans are perfect examples, and the entertainment industry actively promotes these relationships.

So, should we worry about the impact of celebrity worship on society? While it's not a cause for concern for most people, it's essential to maintain a balance between admiring celebrities and appreciating the achievements of real-life heroes, such as scientists, engineers, nurses, and farmers.
