On September 16, 2019, a 22-year-old woman's child died at Vihiga Referral Hospital after a harrowing 30-hour ordeal.
According to the mother, Robai Adisa, she spent 30 hours at the hospital pleading with doctors to have mercy and treat her daughter, who was involved in an accident.
Despite Robai's tears and pleas, the doctors refused to treat her daughter until she could raise the full amount of Ksh4,500, which she could not afford at the time.
Robai managed to raise Ksh2,000, but the doctors still refused to attend to her patient, leading to her daughter's death.
Dr. Arnold Mamadi, the Vihiga Health Chief Officer, denied the claims, stating that the healthcare workers would face disciplinary actions if found culpable.
The incident has left the community in shock, with many questioning the hospital's policies and the treatment of patients who cannot afford medical care.
