On September 22, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto made headlines in Embu County when he cancelled a multi-million road tender awarded to a contractor.
Speaking at Kabaci Village, DP Ruto confirmed that the government had stripped off the tender from the initial contractor and awarded it to another.
DP Ruto emphasized that the government would not tolerate 'cowboy contractors' who fail to deliver on their promises.
He also announced that Ksh800 million had been set aside to facilitate electricity installation to over 15,000 residents in some areas.
Furthermore, DP Ruto revealed that Ksh2.5 billion had been allocated to construct dams to improve food production in arid areas like the Mbeere region.
He expressed the government's commitment to transforming the lives of the people by providing water for irrigation to increase their farm produce.
DP Ruto also took a swipe at ODM leader Raila Odinga, saying, 'Huyu mtu wa vitendawili (Raila) is trying to destroy Jubilee, thinking that by doing so he will ascend to power. I want to tell him that Jubilee is built on a strong foundation and he will not succeed in bringing it down.'
He added that Raila should focus on sorting out the mess in his party instead of intruding into Jubilee affairs.
