On Saturday, AFC Leopards secured their first win of the 2019-2020 season, beating Wazito 1-0 at Bukhungu Stadium. The match was a closely contested affair, with Wazito putting up a strong second-half onslaught, but AFC Leopards held firm to earn their first three points of the season.
John Makwatta scored the winning penalty in the 75th minute, slotting past Wazito's Kevin Omondi to seal the win for AFC Leopards. The victory marked a much-needed boost for the team, who had struggled in their previous two matches.
Speaking after the match, AFC Leopards coach Cassa Mbungo praised his team for their resilience and determination. 'We started the season very slowly after losing to Homeboyz and drawing against Sharks, results that were not very appealing to the fans and the team. Today we have however shown that we are a stronger side when we play well,' he said.
In other Kenya Premier League action, Mathare United secured their first win of the season, beating Ulinzi Stars 2-1 at Machakos Stadium. The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams creating scoring opportunities, but Mathare United ultimately emerged victorious.
George Omondi scored into his own net in the 47th minute to give Mathare United the lead, but Ulinzi Stars equalized through Daniel Waweru's free kick. However, Mathare United sealed the win with a late header from Cliff Alwanga.
