On September 21, 2019, Kenya Simbas secured a thrilling 36-14 victory over Zimbabwe Sables in the Victoria Cup Championship at Nakuru Athletic Club.
The win marked a sweet revenge for the Kenyan team, who had lost to the Sables 30-29 in Bulawayo just two weeks prior.
Despite the loss, the Zimbabwean team received the Victoria Cup from Kenya Rugby Union President Oduor Gangla, in the presence of their counterpart Martin Shawl.
However, Zimbabwean coach Brendan Dawson expressed his disappointment with the officiating, claiming that the referees called unnecessary fouls on his players.
"It was evident the match was unfairly officiated with the referee calling unnecessary fouls on my players," Dawson told Standard Sports.
Kenya's victory was led by Vincent Onyala, who scored two tries in the first half, along with Bonwell Gwinja. Anthony Onyango and Anthony Omondi converted the tries, while Anthony Odongo later converted a penalty.
Despite a try by Chibuwe Ngoni and a conversion by Dudley Whittle Sharpley, the Zimbabweans were unable to close the gap.
In the second half, Kenya's home support played a significant role in the team's victory, with Anthony Omondi and Sammy Were scoring three unanswered tries.
Onyala was voted as the Most Valuable Player for the Simbas.
