On September 21, 2019, a judge made a landmark ruling in favor of Lucy Njora, a former deputy registrar of the Supreme Court, ordering her reinstatement to her position.

The ruling, made by Justice Nelson Abuodha, came after Ms Njora was sacked in January 2018 over a case involving the retirement of two judges of the apex court.

According to the judge, the disciplinary proceedings against Ms Njora were null and void, and she had executed her job as required by Supreme Court rules.

Ms Njora had moved to court last year seeking reinstatement, or alternatively, payment of Sh80 million in terminal dues.

Her case had been pending before the Judicial Service Commission since 2016, and she had questioned why former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga was not called as a witness before the JSC, being the complainant.

Ms Njora had also pointed out that Dr Mutunga had written to her accusing her of gross misconduct by fixing the case for hearing in disregard of his direction.

However, the judge ruled that Ms Njora was entitled to go back to her job without any loss of salary and benefits.
