William Ruto Asks Kenyans to Pray for Raila Odinga

Deputy President William Ruto has asked Kenyans to pray for Raila Odinga, suggesting that the opposition leader needs divine intervention to stop meddling in Jubilee Party affairs.

Speaking in Embu county on September 21, 2019, Ruto said that Raila should focus on building his own Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party instead of working towards weakening the ruling party.

"It is ridiculous that Raila is teaching us how to manage our party affairs when his ODM house is in a crisis," Ruto said, sending residents into laughter.

Ruto claimed that Raila needed to focus on building his own party in order to become president instead of working towards weakening the ruling party.

"He is trying to destroy Jubilee, thinking that by doing so he will ascend to power. I want to tell him that Jubilee is built on a strong foundation and his plan will fail," Ruto added.

The rivalry between Ruto and Raila dates back to 2007/2008 General Election, when the duo differed over post-election violence cases, Mau Forest evictions, and grand coalition national government appointments.
