On a thrilling Saturday in the Kenyan Premier League, AFC Leopards secured their first league win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Wazito at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, thanks to a 75th-minute penalty by John Mark Makwata.
Mathare United also secured a crucial win, beating Ulinzi Stars 2-1 at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, while Nzoia Sugar blanked debutants Kisumu All Stars 2-0 at Moi Stadium.
At Bukhungu, the match was marked by physicality, with both teams vying for a win. The turning point came when Makwata was brought down in the box by Wazito's defender Bernard Ochieng, resulting in a penalty that Makwata converted with ease.
AFC Leopards coach Andre Casa Mbungo praised his team's performance, saying, 'The encounter was physical as each team wanted to win. But I am happy that we have at long last bagged three vital points that will fire us up as we head into our next fixture.'
Wazito's coach Fred Ambani acknowledged that his team played well technically but struggled to translate that into goals.
