On September 21, 2019, Harrison Mumia, the president of the Atheist Union of Kenya, shared the devastating news of his father's passing on his Twitter handle.
According to Mumia, his father died on the night of Friday, September 20, after battling prostate cancer for over a year.
Mumia's father, a devout Christian, was known for his accommodating nature and would often engage in in-depth discussions about religion with his son.
Despite his father's strong Christian beliefs, Mumia has been vocal about his atheism, which has led to controversy and criticism from some quarters.
Earlier this year, Mumia faced backlash for his comments on the DusitD2 terror attack, where he questioned the existence of God and mocked those praying for the victims.
He was also fired from his job at the Central Bank of Kenya for exhibiting political impartiality and later secured a new position as a marketing manager, where he continued to express his atheistic views.
