Published on September 21, 2019, a High Court ruling on Del Monte Kenya's land lease row with Murang'a County government has left the company's future uncertain.
Del Monte Kenya, a Thika-based fruit processing company, had sued Murang'a County after it declined to renew leases for its pineapple plantations, which expire in 2020.
The company's management has expressed concerns that the court's directive to refer the case to the Environmental and Lands Court will create further delays in the land lease renewal process, ultimately affecting its operations.
Del Monte Kenya has warned that more jobs are at stake if the company ceases operations due to the unresolved dispute.
The company is now calling on the national government to intervene and resolve the tussle.
