Kenya's Top Runners Shine at Kabarak University Half Marathon

On September 21, 2019, Kabarak University hosted the Kabarak University Half Marathon, attracting top Kenyan runners. The event saw Leonard Barsoton and Valary Aiyabei emerge as champions in the men's and women's races respectively.

Barsoton dominated the men's field, crossing the finish line in 1 hour, 5 minutes, and 26 seconds. Aiyabei, on the other hand, clinched the women's crown in 1 hour, 15 minutes, and 1 second.

Barsoton, who was running as an individual entrant, expressed his satisfaction with the win, stating that it would give him a good challenge ahead of the Valencia Half Marathon slated for October 27. He also pocketed Sh150,000 for his efforts.

Aiyabei, who hails from Iten in Elegeyo Marakwet County, said she was using the race to gauge her endurance for the upcoming Frankfurt Marathon on October 27. She also retained her title and was awarded Sh150,000.

Other notable winners included Kandie Kibiwot, who emerged victorious in the men's 10km race with a time of 30 minutes and 58 seconds, and Deborah Samum, who won the women's 10km race after clocking 36 minutes and 2 seconds.
