Two months after his passing, Kenyan football icon Joe Kadenge is set to be honoured with a road renaming in Nairobi's South B area.

The proposal, which was tabled by Majority Whip and South B MCA Ms Chege Waithera, seeks to rename Kipiti Crescent Road after the late football legend.

Ms Waithera argued that renaming the road after Kadenge would be a fitting tribute to his legacy, citing the county government's history of naming roads after heroes and heroines who have contributed to the country's development.

“…the country has since independence named and renamed roads to honour heroes and heroines who have contributed immensely to the development of the republic,” she said.

Ms Waithera pointed out that renaming roads and public places after heroes and heroines bestows honour and shows gratitude to such people.

The proposal comes after the Senate had also proposed renaming Nyayo National Stadium after the Kenyan football icon.

Several notable Kenyans have been immortalised by having roads in Nairobi named after them, including Nobel laureate Prof Wangari Maathai and Tom Mboya.
