The 21st edition of the Future Energy East Africa conference, held on September 18-19, 2019, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, highlighted the East African region's significant progress in energy access and the growing importance of mini and off-grid projects in meeting energy targets.
KenGen's CEO, Rebecca Miano, was among the key figures who led discussions on the region's energy landscape. The event brought together a who's who of the region's utilities, including the Acting CEO of Kenya Power, Jared Otieno, and the Principal Secretary of Kenya's Ministry of Energy, Dr Joseph Njoroge.
For the first time, the conference welcomed an official German Country Pavilion, which highlighted the East African market's potential as a growing and attractive market for German suppliers of energy solutions. The German Energy Solutions Initiative (GESI) has been supporting German SMEs in tapping into foreign markets, including the East African market, for years.
The conference also featured the highly anticipated Women in Power Luncheon, which celebrated the role of women in the power sector and their contributions to shaping Africa's future. The luncheon was partnered with KenGen's Pink Energy Leadership institute, a women's development program that provides women with opportunities to participate fully in mega energy projects.
KenGen's Twitter account shared a message of gratitude to those who visited their exhibition stand at the conference, thanking them for chatting about their various modes of generation and creating new partnerships.
KenGen's Pink Energy account also thanked Future Energy Hub for the invitation to the Women in Power Luncheon, commending their efforts in strengthening women's capacity to participate in and benefit from energy markets.
