Published on September 21, 2019, a court in Kenya ordered KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion to seek police protection to enter the office of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) after being suspended by the union's NEC.
According to reports, Sossion was suspended by the NEC after being accused of violating a court order to pay teachers' allowances.
However, Sossion has denied the allegations and has instead accused the NEC of trying to oust him from office.
On September 20, Sossion filed an urgent application with the court seeking protection from the police to enter the KNUT office.
The court, led by Justice Maureen Onyango, granted Sossion's application and ordered the police to provide him with protection to enter the office.
However, the NEC has vowed to resist Sossion's attempts to enter the office, and has instead called for him to be removed as the union's Secretary General.
The crisis in KNUT has been ongoing for several weeks, with Sossion and the NEC at loggerheads over the union's leadership.
