William Ruto Learns Sheng' in Dandora Slum ¶
Deputy President William Ruto's visit to the Dandora slum in Nairobi on September 20, 2019, was a significant event that showcased his willingness to connect with the local community.
During his visit, Ruto inspected development projects, including the Eastern Transmission Pipeline, which cost KSh 2 billion. He also took the opportunity to interact with the local youth, who were eager to engage with him.
Ruto's use of sheng' was a deliberate attempt to connect with the local community. He asked the youth, 'Mko rieng? nyinyi mtakuja nimaliza siku moja na sheng.' (Are you there? You will finish learning sheng' in one day.)
However, the youth felt that Ruto's use of sheng' was outdated, and they decided to teach him the modern version of the slang. Ruto's willingness to learn and adapt was a positive step towards building a stronger relationship with the local community.
The development project that Ruto inspected aims to provide clean water to the residents of Dandora, Kayole, and Embakasi. The project will benefit approximately 200,000 households.
