On May 20, Bernard Chege's life was forever changed when he was shot by police officers William Chirchir and Godfrey Kirui. The incident occurred at City Park, where Chege's aunt, Janet Waiyaki, had been murdered just a year prior.

According to Chege, who testified in a Milimani court on Friday, he was neither naked nor engaging in any illicit activity with his aunt at the time of her death. Chege's mother, Faith Wangeci, also appeared in court, corroborating her son's account, stating that he was fully dressed when she saw him after the incident.

Earlier allegations had suggested that Chege's aunt's underwear and other inner clothing were found in the car, fueling claims of incest. However, Chege denied these allegations, stating that the clothing belonged to his aunt.

On the day of the shooting, Chege claimed to have heard loud bangs on both sides of the Toyota Fielder, causing him to wake up and see a gun. He then switched on the car's engine and attempted to drive away, but the area was sprayed with bullets.

When questioned about his actions, Chege stated that he was simply trying to escape the situation. He denied claims that he was guilty of committing incest, stating that the allegations were 'not true.'

Chege also disputed claims that officers approached him, asking him to open the car doors. He stated that he did not see any officers at the scene, only three men. Furthermore, he claimed to have been unaware that the area had been cordoned off due to a possible terror attack.

After the gunfire, Chege realized he had been shot and tried to ask for help, but none was forthcoming. He was left with a bullet wound to his right arm and back.
